Massage Therapy
I have been a registered massage therapist in Calgary since June of 2000, the same month I graduated from Mount Royal College with my massage therapy certificate. I have also maintained my license with the City of Calgary for that same period of time, to comply with our local bylaws. As part of my 10 years experience I’ve worked at various chiropractic clinics and spa settings.
Through these experiences I learned that not everyone that aspires to open a business has the complete business acumen they require to build a business properly. As a result when I left my last massage setting I decided to build run my own on-site massage business. Within only a few months I was able to exceed my previous income without working as many hours. I did this by marketing the “Coffee Break Massage” on the FX Massage Therapy web site, to previous clients to their workplace and volunteering at charity golf tournaments, doing a quick massage for the golfers at one of the tee boxes.
Business Acumen
A big part of my personality is the enjoyment of reading, mostly business related books, but I still enjoy the occasional John Grisham novel. Some of the most influential books I’ve read over the years are, 'The E-Myth', 'Think and Grow Rich', 'Rich Dad, Poor Dad' and more recently many Seth Godin books. 'The E-Myth' taught me the importance of systems in a business; 'Think and Grow Rich' taught me about personal strengths and creativeness; 'Rich Dad, Poor Dad' taught me about the importance of personal finances; and Seth Godin has taught me how important marketing is regarding building a business.
From reading each of these books and many more, I was determined to build my own business and prosper. As the ideas came to me, I was able to piece together what are now FX Massage Therapy and FX Solo Therapists. I’m actually very proud of the concept and how I’m able to help other massage therapists build their own business and thrive, without having to go through the experiences I had, promises not kept, poor management, lack of vision and so on. One of the chapters in Think and Grow Rich is persistence and it resonated with me because of another part of my personality, loyalty. I stayed with too many of the settings I was in too long and wasn’t able to thrive.
Through this persistence I’ve learned how important all the aspects, which I mention above, are in building a business massage therapists can be proud of. With all the tools that have been put together on FX Solo Therapists and marketing FX Massage Therapy to your clients, when used to there fullest other massage therapists will thrive as well. The systems are in place, the creativeness is there, building your own prosperity will come and marketing when done properly pays for itself.
